About Lake Superior Sport Fishing

Captain Reid DeRosie

I have lived near the beautiful shores of Lake Superior and surrounded by the many striking inland lakes of Upper Michigan for my entire life. Born and raised in Marquette, Michigan I decided to make my home and life in this place with all its wonderful resources and seasons to enjoy.

I started my fishing career a little late in life at the age of sixteen, paddling in canoes on inland lakes in search of Small mouth Bass, Largemouth Bass and giant Northern Pike and Musky. My passion for the sport continued to grow, and I bought my first boat when I was eighteen, which allowed me to continue my exploration of more area waters.

At 21 I combined work and fun when I began Guiding. I enjoy meeting new people and sharing the sport that I love. Whether it is experiencing the joy of a “first” fish caught or the excitement of a record breaker I feel privileged to share the fishing experience.

As my guiding career progressed and I logged countless hours guiding on both Lake Superior and the many Upper Michigan inland lakes I came to the realization that this was what I wanted to do with my life. I spent a couple of years as a mate learning how to fish Lake Superior safely and skillfully. I obtained my Captain’s License in 2006 and from there started my own fishing charter business.

I am drawn to Lake Superior, its vast waters, big fish, and overall persona. Lake Superior is intriguing for its sheer size, and reputation for fantastic fishing and scenic shoreline. With my knowledge and experience let me help you catch some big fish and show you this amazing body of water!

About the Boat

Welcome aboard our boat, Quincy D! If it is your first time out on the Big Lake we are glad to show you how the gear works, and to answer any questions you may have.  If you are a seasoned pro, we’re glad to answer any questions you may have, and hopefully learn a new technique or two, as well as share fishing stories!

  •  Baha Cruiser . The boat stands roughly 30 feet in length and 11 feet wide. The width of the boat gives a nice roomy deck to reel in those big fish, or spread out to relax
  • Built for fishing. Made of fiberglass it sits heavy in the water, which helps keep a stable fishing and boating platform. It also has a hard top, which provides good cover for hot sun or rain
  • Has a small fridge (coolers can be provided, or you are welcome to bring your own), a bathroom if needed, and a small comfortable below-deck quarters with a table.

The boat is well fitted for electronics. A large Lawrence HD Fishfinder helps us locate the fish, and the GPS helps us stay on fish and location. The unit is also equipped with Radar. There is a Radio/CD/iPod player on board. Feel free to bring some music to accompany your outing!

We use Okuma rods and reels, and our downriggers are Big Jon electric riggers. Most of the spoons and tackle used on board are Finn Spoons, R+R Razors, and Moonshine. All fishing equipment is easily removed and put away for scenic cruises. The boat has room for some dry storage for extra clothing, food, and other dry goods.
